still working on my masterpiece

Hey! diddle, diddle, The cat and the fiddle, The cow jumped over the moon; The little dog laughed To see such sport, And the dish ran away with the spoon.

another guilty pleasure of mine is “the voice”. i am completely enamored by the array of people/contestants who brave it all to chase a dream and follow their hearts. it is a theme that strikes a chord with me and i rarely tire of these auditions and early performances.

i watch the europe voice, the uk voice, the voice australia, poland, switzerland, etc… the list goes on. again and again i am in awe of the power of innocence and the strength that their hope provides to propel them through the combine that is reality tv.

the world needs more hope. or i do.

fast forward to the voice finale last night- chris jamison joined jessie j to sing her most recent single. i fell in love with the lyrics and with her message. especially the phrase “still working on my masterpiece”. this correlates to “progress not perfection” in my mind which represents a mindset of acceptance, proportion, and manage-ability. these attributes are paramount to sanity and emotional sobriety for me. i work to accept my shortcoming, my errors, and my over-reactions. my sponsor always told me that it is not our reactions to life that get us into trouble, but it is our over-reactions to life that steer us off course.

when i can grasp the idea of being a work in progress, i can better let go of unreasonable expectation. in my life, this is the shortest route to serenity- letting go of expectations and greeting the world with open arms.

no doubt when i master this, there will be another hurdle that i need to scale. it’s prolly always gonna be progress and not perfection. at the end of the day, i am happy to have something to work on and work towards. it keeps me outa my head.

So much pressure, why so loud?  If you don’t like my sound, you can turn it down I gotta road  And I walk it alone

Uphill battle, I look good when I climb I’m ferocious precautious ? I’m not gonna stop I like the view from the top

You talk that Blah blah that la la, that rah rah sh And I’m so done, I’m so over it Sometimes I mess up, I eff up, I hit and miss But I’m okay, I’m cool with it

I still fall on my face sometimes and I Can’t color inside the lines ’cause I’m perfectly incomplete I’m still working on my masterpiece and I I wanna hang with the grades gotta Way to go, but it’s worth the wait, no You haven’t seen the best of me I’m still working on my masterpiece and I

(Oh oh, oh ah) (Oh oh, oh ah)

Never mind, don’t matter Those who matter, don’t mind If you don’t catch what I’m throwing then I leave you behind Don’t need a flash And I am leaving like that

They talk that  Blah blah that la la, that rah rah sh Go with the punches, and take the hits Sometimes I mess up, I eff up, I swing and miss But it’s okay, I’m cool with this

I still fall on my face sometimes and I Can’t color inside the lines ’cause I’m perfectly incomplete I’m still working on my masterpiece Masterpiece, masterpiece

(Oh oh, oh ah) (Oh oh, oh ah) (still, workin’ on, still workin’ on) Still workin’ on my masterpiece
